VM support for BPC

Hi folks,

I've been looking everywhere for some concrete guidelines, but haven't found what I needed - does anyone know whether SAP officially support BPC installs on a VM environment (whether for development or production)?

I would really like to find some official documentation that specifically mentions whether or not these scenarios are supported and/or recommended.

Thanks very much!

Jason

Great thanks guys - that is really helpful. I also need to find something that explains WHY they don't support VMs, as my client is not convinced! Aside from a performance aspect are there any documents anywhere that explains why they don't recommend this approach?

Thanks again for your help!

Best wishes,

Jason

Hi again Jason,

From what I know, there is no document explaining the reasons why it's not supported. The only official "document" speaking about that is the SAP notes provided above. At that moment, probably, VM ware environments have not been tested enough to be supported.

Hope it helps.

Kind Regards,

Patrick

Hi Jason,

that's true there are no other documents explaing the reasons other than these notes. The reason is that SAP not yet tested all scenarios of BPC on the VM ware along with the performance issues.

Hi,

Although we knew about the consequences for the support by SAP, we migrated to VM anyway and have not had any problems.

The performance even improved.

Hi Jason,

It's specified in the installation document that VMware based installation is only supported for development and testing only but not for production. Here is an excerpt from the installation documentation from SAP:

"Business Planning and Consolidation supports a VMware-based installation for development and

testing, but not for production use. See SAP Note 1098847."
