Variant configuration (LOVC)

in thread discussion took place. can SAP GTS support a "variant configuration"?

According to my understanding. Variants should support more easily the "production" process.

If i read the SAP explanation a simple example (e.g. "Possible characteristics of a car, for example, are model, country, color, and engine") then I am not sure if SAP GTS can support Variant configuration.

During set up of the material in feeder system the "car" will be defined by one material number. By using class data (class type 300) the material is described in more detail (e.g. color of car, type of car, motor of car etc etc.). And only by combining material number and class data the "data" might be complete for SAP GTS. Can SAP consider this in the "customs" part and in the "compliance" part? Is the "class" data as well replicate to SAP GTS?

My assumption would be: no support possible.

Hi Cristoph,

No, GTS doesn't support Variant Configuration - you would have to build a project solution.

For Customs management, please consider whether or not the different possible configurations would actually change the Tariff Classification of the product. If not, then there should be no problem. If the Classification could change, based on one or a small number of choices, then perhaps the "End-Use" functionality could enable the right value to be used for each transaction.

For Compliance management, the standard functionality can take into account the Bill of Materials for each transaction, so perhaps you could build a solution if the variant choices were linked to specific Materials in the feeder system.

Christoph, a possibility which I see for this requirement is to use additional product attributes. You can configure additional attributes for the product in GTS, this way you can define 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 , 40 and 60 char attributes based on the need. These can further be mapped to material attributes in the feeder system.

Now, if we want to use these attributes in customs or compliance processes, that will be development. Hope that helps.
