Validation Rule - Compare Opening balances to Prior year balances

Hi Experts,
Is there a way to write validation rules to compare prior year (BS balances) to the BS opening balance (subtype)?
The period mode selections don’t have a prior year YTD option.
We are using 2023 OP FPS01.
I see that the 2502 Cloud version has the updated validation approach where the option to select Closing balance for the previous year is available. ->
https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_S4HANA_CLOUD/90c07e91c7a64f328be3fd6b48955b13/ef6cd7b35ce94fbf89d4c979...

What can be done with 2023OP?
One option is to copy the prior year ending balance to current year version B and then compare actual to version B but version is not a characteristic available for selection.
Any ideas?

Regards,
Eyal

Hi Eyal,

From SAP help you should have the option to have 'YTD for Previous Year' and 'Opening Balance' as measures for the operand:

https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_S4HANA_ON-PREMISE/4ebf1502064b406c964b0911adfb3f01/01d0ab5a8238483ab75...

I can find the same in my sandbox for 2023OP SP3:

Remember that YTD is for the period you specify in the validation. You properly need to add period = 12 as 'Where' to the YTD calculation. The the rule should then validate YTD up to period 12 for the previous year.

Hi Martin,

Thank you - I saw the help too earlier.

My question is re 2023 OP.

Previously I tested in the 2502 cloud version selecting YTD for previous year and as you noted it selects the parallel prior year period (e.g. 2025.06 vs. 2024.06) instead of 2025.0 vs. 2024.12). I accessed the 2023 OP FPS01 version (we are currently migrating from EC-CS to GR so I can't test yet) and did not see any option to further limit to period 12.
How do you limit - Where' to the YTD calculation. The the rule should then validate YTD up to period 12 for the previous year."?
