Understanding Protect sheet in EPM

Hi experts,

I would like to protect sheet for users, that only can change context members and they see new values on report.

the procedure that I have achieved is:

1. Select all cells of my sheet:

2. Active Blocked option

3. Create a password to protect workbook or worksheet.

Is this correct?

Is possible to protect my report in another way? How?

Thanks!

It's correct!

But why do you need other options?

For some complex input schedules Data validation can be also used as a dynamic protection mechanism... to protect some columns with actual data and not protect forecast data depending on selected month!

Thank you Vadim,

Ok, understand you about this case. in that situation how can I do? for example if I have an input schedule and rows are dinamically, I coudn't use my initial protection...

How can I do?

Why not to test it yourself

BPC protection is the same as Excel protection but the password is stored hidden in the worksheet (in ole object). When you press Refresh the file is temporary unprotected, axes and data are expanded/refreshed and then it's back protected!

Hahaha ok!

But If i want to protect only some rows or some columns the way to achieve is with EPMFormatting?

Thanks!

Ups, sorry, for Input Schedule with dynamic number of rows you will have to use EPM Formatting sheet - set not protected where required!

But in general Input Schedule is static in terms of number of columns and rows...

P.S. End users have to fill some fixed layout or...

Ok, you're right.

By the way, I apply my first option. Locked all cells of sheet and then Protect woorkbook with EPM sheet options. But when I refresh report and change context members all of my report is unlocked and user can modify all columns/rows....

and I only refresh my report...

Is there any option to lock cells after refresh?

Thanks!

If you are using EPM Formatting Sheet then you have to format locked status also with Formatting sheet!

P.S. I was talking about the case without formatting sheet...

Ok...so I change rows or columns that I want to lock with this option?

I can see there is another option:

Which is the difference and which option i have to choose?

Thanks!!

If the cell in the formatting sheet is locked (Data or Header):

And in the field Use the "Lock" is selected directly or indirectly (All - indirectly).

Then Lock status of the cell will be applied on refresh!

Use means:

You have a cell (Data or Header) formatted with different options - for example some font. But you don't want to change font in the report cells. Then you exclude font from Use.
