Strange new Tag: SAP Business Planning and Consolidation

Strange tag that can be set as primary was created at the beginning of March 2018:

Looks like a root tag for:

SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, version for SAP NetWeaver https://answers.sap.com/tags/01200615320800001016

SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, version for the Microsoft platform https://answers.sap.com/tags/01200615320800000726

SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, version for SAP BW/4HANA https://answers.sap.com/tags/73555000100800000777

But why everybody can post using this tag???? To make things completely unmanageable???

P.S. Under this tag I can see a mix of question about BPC NW, BPC MS, BW/4HANA and simply unrelated questions!

I will have the general tag for SAP Business Planning and Consolidation excluded from the tag picker the next time the tags are updated, which probably won't be for another week. In the meantime, sorry for the inconvenience.

As of yesterday, the umbrella tag has been removed from the tag picker.

I can speak to why this tag is now visible and selectable.

oliver wrote about the "road to topics" several months ago in his On the Topic of Tag Pages post, and jamie.cantrell previewed the topic concept in her recent post.

The "SAP Business Planning and Consolidation" is indeed a kind of "root tag," as you suggest, in that the related product tags are part of that family of tags. In the future it will be a true hierarchy. The "root" will become a topic area.

Some of these "root" tags needed to be turned on in the community in order to pave the way for the transition to the new experience, where it won't be so disjointed.

Then the concept failed! Ability to post to the root tag will make it a waste bucket for the questions as I can see it now. Parent tags can't be made selectable at least for primary tag (or even secondary if primary is not one of the children of this parent).

Agree with you on this.

Just to add, back in the day, if I am not wrong, BPC NW and BPC MS were both children of EPM along with Disclosure Management, SAP Strategy Management... But the EPM wasn't dubious as it is with just one SAP Business Planning & Consolidation..

It's already confusing as it with Embedded vs Standard being two completely different tools.

Hierarchy itself is not an issue! The issue is the ability to post to the parent.

I mean some absurd scenario: Let's create a root parent tag "SAP" and allow users to post questions under this tag 🙂
