Hello experts!
I've created one Report Data Cache (Excel) with 59 chapters.
Each chapter corresponds to an Excel spreadsheet (data cache) that uses one BEx Query as a data source, that expects to receive some parameters as filters (variables that change every month).
Everything is working very well, that is, to perform the refresh the user edits each of the chapters, presses the refresh button, informs all the filters variables, such as year and period, and continues. Except that he does it 59 times, because there are 59 chapters and each one with period filters, companies, different accounts that all changes every month.
Question:
Is there any way to pass these parameters (filter variables) to each chapter and execute the refresh without having to open one by one to inform new filters?
I've looked in the manuals, help, blogs and I can't find anything related to it.
Is it possible to do that?
Thanks for the help!
Hello pablolupinari
Not sure I fully understand what you do. If you have a report with multiple chapters, and chapters have links to (BW) briefing books with variables, they will not be prompted on a refresh.
In the web UI, go to the report and select the 'content refresh' tab
In this case, I have 2 chapters which are linked to different briefing books.
In chapter 1, I have set the variables (for query 1)
In chapter 2 (which uses a different briefing book / query), the variables are also set (different values of course)
When running the refresh (at report level), no prompts will show for the variables

Hello Marc,
Thanks for the reply.
You have the same situation I do.
Two chapters which use different briefing book / query, where you have to set variables with different values of course.
My point is:
Every time I have to change the values of the variables of each briefing book / query, I have to edit the chapter and (thru Excel) I have to set the values of the variables there in the Excel.
My question is:
Is there a way to change the values of the variables of each briefing book / query without having to open the Excel file? Thru the web for example?!?! And then, execute the refresh?
Imagine my case: I have 59 chapters all of them using different briefing book / query, for which I have to set 5 variables (different values of course). It would be great if I could upload an xml file to the server with all values of all queries and then perform the refresh thru the web at once.
Does it exists in DM?
Thanks again for you help!

Of course there is a gain
The variable that changes (most like a Month or Period or something like that) needs to be changed 1x per period
After that, you can run the refresh on the web for the report
So, your method:
- open each chapter each time and run refresh (so opening X chapters Y times to refresh)
Suggested method
- set variables once, and then refresh is a one-click option (so open X chapters 1 time)

Hi Marc,
When I said "open each chapter each time to refresh" I mean, 1x per period, because the period YYYY.MMM changes, for example.
You know, the user doesn't want to open 59 chapters to change 1x per period (believe or not), because he/she understands that DM should give a way to do it thru the web.
Anyway.
He/She will have to open X chapters 1x per period at least to set variables and refresh it. After that, and just after, he/she will refresh using the web.

Hello pablolupinari,
If the several queries are in the same workbook, you can use "Unify variables" option in Refresh window to simplify entering query values (in an open chapter, not from web portal).
Query variables can't be changed from the web portal, only refreshed on previously selected variables.

Hi Olga,
That's what I was afraid of.
Different workbooks, different briefing book / queries, and the variables are also different values of course.
If the user has to open each one of the Excel files to set new values for the query variables, there is no gain using refresh thru the web.
Once I am in the Excel I do the refresh at once.
There should be a way to pass new variables values without opening each Excel file.
Thanks anyway.
