SAP BPC 11.1 Embedded or Standard for Greenfield Implementation?

Which one is The Best, Standard or Embedded BPC (SAP HANA-optimized) for a Greenfield implementation?

As we know BW4HANA is a fine built system compare to earlier BW systems.

SAP BW/4HANA:

1. Based on lean ABAP appl. Server (codelines of other NetWeaver components and classic BW objects were removed)

2. Supports only HANA-optimized objects

3. Supports SAP HANA DB only

SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 11.1, version for SAP BW/4HANA is a new product based on SAP BW4 (Aka BPC 11.x is on BW4H) and BW4HANA is not built on SAP NetWeaver.

SAP BPC in one of two ways:

1. Embedded configuration, Business Planning and Consolidation is integrated with SAP HANA-optimized processing, through which you can perform SAP HANA-optimized planning.

2. In SAP BPC Standard Configuration, you can use all the functionality that is available in the standard configuration of SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, version for SAP NW.

Do we need to implement both Standard and Embedded or implement Planning in Embedded (Optimized Model, which is very effective by creating ADSOs and CPs) and Consolidation in Standard?? or implement both in Standard?

Which one is The Best for implementing?

federico.blarasin I agree with you it purely depends up on the use case and the skillet should determine the decision.

pmally_19 Thanks for the nice blog. As stated the BPC 11.x embedded will have there technical benefits, however the usability, adaption, use case and skill set needs to considered for the decision.

From S4 1809 onwards ABAP Platform is similar to BW4/HANA system(AS ABAP), probably way forward the all SAP NW systems might get replaced with ABAP Platform systems.

Since BPC 11.x versions are on BW4/HANA (which is ABAP AS) and It consists the ABAP Platform, though the BPC having two flavors as Standard/Classic (NW earlier) and Embedded (AS ABAP), I feel it’s better to consider Embedded for Greenfield implementations.

For Question “why 1809 onwards ABAP Platform not NW”? for that nice blog

ABAP Platform 1809 (AS ABAP 7.53), please check page 6 and page 9

Sorry, but still not clear, what's wrong with BPC11 Standard on BW4/HANA? It's based on ADSO and performance is fine.

Both technologies (Standard and Embedded) will allow you to do planning and consolidation.
It really depends on your specific requirements, skillset of the people implementing the solution, etc...

Difficult to say which one is the best solution, but definitely checking the requirements you can identify the best solution for your case.

Thanks Federico Blarasin,

I liked your statement but I still have doubts.

in SAP BPC 11.1 Standard, is it still carries the same architecture from below BPC <11.x version? if yes, then it's better to consider the Embedded (fact that SAP BW/4HANA is on App Serv ABAP).

Thanks,

Prashanth

In a standard configuration, you can use all the functionality that is available in the standard configuration of SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, version for SAP NetWeaver.
