Dear SAP Gurus,
We are implementing both planning and consolidation for a client in BPC 10.1 NW . In the process of the modeling, we are trying to create the dimensions for planning and consolidation.
I have a query regarding the account dimension. Is there any hard and fast rule for creating Account dimension for planning and consolidation separately.
What would be the impact if the same dimension is used for both planning and consolidation.
I am in the opine that, we have to create 2 dimensions for accounts - one for consolidation and the other for planning.
If one dimension account is maintained for both the processes, when master data loads for planning are scheduled on a daily basis,a few consolidation specific properties that are to be manually maintained in the BPC will have an impact.
Could you please correct me if I am wrong.
Also, client wants the masters upload to be done on a daily basis by scheduling. While this happens will the properties maintained manually in BPC for any of the dimension have an impact and get overwritten with empty data.
Kindly help me with the same.

Shilpa

Hi Shilpa,
Is there any hard and fast rule for creating Account dimension for planning and consolidation separately.

There is no hard & fast rule, it's depends on requirement, e.g. if your planing is done on different account / different level of accounts and consolidation is on different accounts in that case keeping separate is better option.
If same level of accounts are used in both planing and consolidation then no impact.
If you create 2 dimension, maintenance will more.
Depending on requirement and maintenance ( one time efforts / routine efforts) decide the approach.

Hi Shrikant,
Thanks for the response.
Could you please help me in understanding the impact of the manually maintained properties.
For instance for consolidation we use account dimension with the BPC specific properties like Dimlist. The same is not there in ECC. What would happen to the properties maintained in BPC if the loads from BW trigger.
Will they be still there as update mode is used?
Please suggest.

Shilpa
Usually in production system, whenever a posting is required for new account or company code, there would be prior workflow, which is creation of master data and updating all the required properties in the downstream systems.
This should be agreed by all stakeholders.
Ideally management should allow one or 2 days to create master data prior to posting actual transactions in ECC
