S/4 Hana conversion to margin analysis

Hi:

We upgraded from ECC 6.0 to S/4 Hana 2022 (on Rise) in August of 2023.  Our upgrade was just a technical upgrade, no new functionality.  We had/have costing based COPA active and want to look at turning on margin analysis now.  I am looking for any information from those who have made this conversion already.  We are trying to determine level of effort and what it will take to complete all the necessary evaluations. In my searching - I found documentation for those doing this as part of your S/4 migration but am not finding much on doing it stand alone after migration.

I would appreciate any guidance.

Hello

I'm sure you can find the process easily, but here are some practical notes for you based on my experience:

Account Base is more simple actually. the Goal for account base is to present exact P&L amount in FI

But in Costing Base, your can evaluate some data differently

the most important part , is to make şure that all accounting documents relate to a CO object or PA segment

for primary cost elements , The relation to PA is Cost center, and you will transfer data to PA by PA assessment cycles

However, for revenue element  during data entry you should field PA segment data

ın okb9 you can make revenu element mandetory for PA segment :

if you are using Cost component structure and you want to spilit you CGS to Cost component, in costing base we use KE27 , but here the customizing is a little different :

SPRO=> Financial Accounting=>General Ledger Accounting=>Periodic Processing=>Integration=>Materials Management=>Define Accounts for Splitting the Cost of Goods Sold

Hi @kdudgmo1023

You can refer to the below blog for step by step guide from migration from costing based COPA to Account based COPA.

https://community.sap.com/t5/financial-management-blog-posts-by-members/steps-by-step-guide-migratio...

Also I have one question, as you mentioned you are already migrated to S4 HANA, how come you have not activated Account based COPA as its mandatory in S4 HANA.
