Hi everyone,
I’m looking for guidance on how RITA (Registration for Indirect Taxation Abroad) in S/4HANA Cloud handles VAT reporting for foreign registrations.
In the classic report S_ALR_87012357 – Advance Return for Tax on Sales/Purchases, activating Plant Abroad enables the field “Tax Reporting Country/Region.” This lets users produce VAT returns for a foreign country (both sales and purchases) and automatically convert amounts into that country’s currency, without having to filter by tax codes or suppliers.
My questions:
Does RITA offer an equivalent way to report VAT per foreign country?
What configuration is needed for RITA to work in a similar way?
Tax events, tax codes, and tax determination?
A specific tax procedure?
Does RITA support automatic currency translation?
Is there documentation that explains how RITA replaces the old Plant Abroad reporting behavior?
I’d like to understand whether RITA is expected to cover this functionality out of the box, or whether additional configuration is required.
Thanks in advance for any insights or examples.

Hi @Wayne10 ,
Thanks very much for your question. Activating RITA does offer VAT reporting in a country in which you don't have a permanent establishment, so it differs from the Plants Abroad solution in some of the particulars.
Activating RITA does activate the Tax Reporting Country/Region field, as in this screenshot from the Maintain Tax Box Mappings for Advanced Tax Return (103188) configuration activity:
We have extensive documentation on the SAP Help Portal for this topic, which should answer most of your questions about RITA.
We also have a dedicated topic on some of the configurations you may want to make in your system once RITA is active.
The documentation also contains detailed information about how currency translation occurs with RITA active in your system.
If you have further questions, please reply here and @ me.
Thank you!
