Reporting Performance

Dear Experts

We are facing a certain performance issue in few of our reports. Can anyone help with the following issue?

Our model is a YTD model. However, when we try to retrieve data on Periodic measures, the EPM 10 reports take around 10 min to display that data. In MS 7.5 system, for the same report, it is tking less than a minute

Can anyone suggest why such difference and solution for the same?

Hi,

Different OLAP engine! No surprise... The Microsoft engine is better optimized.

Hi Vadim

Thanks for the prompt response

So we do not have any solution for this? Can we at least improve the current performance?

SAP is always releasing notes about MDX functionalities and performance, you should check them out.

My advice is to upgrade BW to the latest service pack.

The generic solution is:

1. Invest in the fast hardware for BW.

2. Evaluate BPC on HANA.

There is no magic tool to improve the report performance. For some specific reports especially with non default measures and a lot of dimension formulas some improvements can be done...

You have to be sure if It spends more time in Olap but not in DB.

Hi Tilak - Can you please explain the point you mentioned. How should I check that ?

Hi - You can use transaction UJSTAT in BW to monitor a specific user's performance when running a report in the EPM client.

This will tell you exactly where the time is being spent.

We had a similar issue where MDX functions were taking an absolute age (around 2 minutes for a report).  Everything we have experienced and read up on suggests the latest services packs significantly improve performance.

Hope this helps

Ian
