Report download to Excel and special characters

I download a vendor report into excel. The vendor name contains a 'special' character - an acute accent over the 'e' in the name. Québec- the report shows the name in excel, for me, as it should, however for another user the name shows as Québec.  Any ideas on how to rectify this??

Consider Unicode UTF-8 or more, or at- least ISO-8859  (most commonly Windows Latin 1), as good old ANSI (Code page 437doesn't handle most accented characters as "é" of "Québec" in your case it was unable to convert a 2 byte character.
