PaPM Cloud vs On Premise

Hello experts,

I am interested in knowing what are some of the main differences between PaPM Cloud and PaPM on Premise, namely:

  • What are the main functions and capabilities only available in Cloud? (and if applicable, also only available on Premise);
  • How can we control the Security of Data if PaPM is in the Public Cloud?
  • What steps are required to extend an existing investment on Premise/private cloud to support hybrid cloud?
  • How does the subscription model vary according to the content?

Thank you in advance,

Miguel

Hi Miguel,

1) On the functional side, they are the same. You can achieve the same using either Cloud or On-prem. PaPM cloud is in the SAP roadmap so there are faster improvements/updates on this.

There are a few differences in some functions (most of them are related to the difference in the technical architecture behind them), but that doesn't mean that you won't be able to perform those functions (for example, FTP, you also can achieve that in the cloud using different functions), here is a rough list that you can check:

You can check the following blog to see more: https://blogs.sap.com/2021/06/07/sap-profitability-and-performance-management-reached-the-cloud/

2) Security roles are managed on BTP Cockpit outside of PaPM Cloud and if you want to lock/segment access for end users, you can use Analytics Privileges in PaPM set by master data. (See this blog: https://blogs.sap.com/2022/06/03/sap-profitability-and-performance-management-cloud-analytic-privile....

3) This depends on your strategy and your context, what I can say to you is that you can export your model from PaPM on Prem and then use the content network to import it to PaPM Cloud (Of course, this has some considerations, for example, all functions have to be compatibles between both PaPM, you have to recconect your data sources, etc).

4) PaPM Cloud is licensed by Capacity Units (RAM, vCPU, Storagte), so depends on how large/complex is your model to a size that.

Hope this information can help you.
