Optimizing Standard Groupings and Their Behavior in CVI Customizing for Business Partners in SAP S/4

Dear SAP Community,

According to the documentation, SAP provides two standard groupings for number assignment:

  • 0001 for internal number assignment
  • 0002 for external number assignment

The following rules apply:

  • The standard grouping 0001 is automatically selected by the system if neither a business partner number nor a grouping is specified when creating a business partner.
  • The standard grouping 0002 is used if a business partner number is provided but no grouping is specified.

In my opinion, it would make sense to activate the “Hide” checkbox for these standard groupings so that they are no longer available for selection in the “Grouping” dropdown list in transaction BP when creating a business partner.

Additionally, I have read that standard groupings can be used, for instance, for the number assignment of contact persons, as it lack account groups like customers or vendors and therefore cannot be assigned via an account group.

However, I question whether it is truly necessary to create a separate business partner grouping with its own number range in the system for contact persons.

Hence, I would like to pose the following questions to the community:

  1. Should the standard groupings 0001 and 0002 be hidden?
  2. Is it necessary to create a separate business partner grouping with a unique number range for contact person?
  3. Does it make sense to include the standard groupings 0001 and 0002 in the Customer-Vendor Integration master data synchronization under 'Define Number Assignment for Direction BP to Customer' or 'Define Number Assignment for Direction BP to Vendor'?

Thank you in advance for your insights and suggestions!

Best regards,
Emal Rahman
