Issue Restoring BPC 10.1 NW (Standard) Environment UJBR

Hello all,

I successfully used UJBR to create a BACKUP of an Environment for a BPC 10.1 NW Standard model.

Executed this in the Foreground, selected the options for basically everything possible (all items checkmarked).

This successfully created a ZIP file.

Now I'm attempting to restore this in a separate system and server altogether.

I've successfully used UJBR in the past on this system to BACKUP items, I've never tried RESTORING items though.

In this case, I tried RESTORE with an unused Environment ID, chose the Archive FIle Name for the ZIP file created in the above BACKUP, selected everything "Restore Metadata Tables", "Use Tech Names From BackUp Files", "Restore Master Data", "Restore Transaction Data", "0 for Record Count".

Doing it this way it ran for quite some time and then eventually simply timed out, I received the "Maximum Runtime Error 14052" message.

I attempted to repeat the Restore in the Background instead, but this simply did not work and viewing the Status it said the job completed in 1 second, meaning nothing happened.

I attempted to repeat for a third time and this time deselected the "Restore Transaction Data" in attempts to lessen the requirements, but same result after running for quite some time it simply timed out with the same runtime error message.

Could someone please advise, or provide alternatives to this Restore approach?

Thanks in advance!

What I ended up doing was temporarily increasing the timeout time:

Go to TCODE: RZ11

Update: "rdisp/max_wprun_time" to 1800 from 600

Reran the UJBR in Foreground mode and I was able to successfully restore this time.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Sorry, but it's a wrong approach... better use AL11 and background!

Hi Vadim,

I appreciate that that would not be the recommended approach, but it was a temporary measure as our BASIS resources could not provide AL11 access at the time and this was a time sensitive issue.

Also, should there not be a way to make the RESTORE working appropriately in the Foreground approach, as AL11 is only for the Background approach?

Thanks.

FOREGROUND restore is limited by session timeout. And it's a bad practice to increase it... It can take a lot of time to backup/restore depending on data volume! No issues with background!

Your basis team have to provide access to some AL11 folder (or you have to find the new basis team )

Understood, that helps to note that going forward.

I have used the Foreground option in the past without issues so was just curious.

Thanks again.

Foreground is fine for small volumes...

Thanks but this simply shows the procedure I followed which is backing up and restoring via foreground and those steps were met with the runtime error.

"I attempted to repeat the Restore in the Background instead, but this simply did not work" - how?

Hi Vadim, thanks for your response.

When I attempted to do it in the Background it ran without any errors.

When I look at the Job Status though it shows:

There is no way it of course would have completed in 1 second and there are no new environments created.

I attempted to re-run the RESTORE and this time with the "Restore Technical Backup Names" deselected, but again same runtime error. I've noticed that after sometime of the screen not showing any updates it does finally begin saying "Processing XML" at the bottom of the SAP screen before it eventually does time out.

Looking through your UJBR with Background link it is primarily for the BACKUP option and as I'm Restoring into a different system altogether I'm not sure how I can leverage this.

I think the best course is to figure out how to do this with the Foreground option. Perhaps I need to get BASIS involved to allow the job run time to be increased, thoughts? Even temporarily to run this job.

Any thoughts?

For background restore you have to put file in AL11 folder...

Hi Vadim,

If I'm seeing this correctly I'm to put files into AL11 via TCODE CG3Z, however when I attempt to place that in my SAP GUI it says this transaction does not exist.

So not sure how to put the files into AL11 otherwise.

Please talk to basis team to give you access to some AL11 folder
