IS there is any automated way in GRC to delete the long approval pending requests? For example if a request is pending approval from manager for more than 5 months, i want that to be deleted automatically..

have you had a look at stale request processing

refer to 1939486 - How to Process Stale Requests

program GRFNMW_BATCH_STALE_REQUEST can be scheduled

you can also consider scheduling reminders for your workflows as well or escalation to avoid it sitting there.

It is already scheduled as background job. But not cancelling the requests..

are you able to share some screens shots of what you have cancelled and the workflow information (look at the Administrators view)?
