Is COPA optional or mandatory for S4 HANA

Hi SAP Experts,

We have in a Migration Project from SAP ECC to S4 HANA.

In ECC system, Controlling areas are not assigned to Operating Concern.

We want to know if in S4 HANA is mandatory this assigment.  If there is a sap note or another documentation, could you share it?

In SAP ECC, costing-based CO-PA (CO-Profitability Analysis) is the default option. But in SAP S/4HANA, the default option is account-based CO-PA, though you can run both options together.
