I am trying to work out how best to import initiatives into SSM.
There a two options that I see are available to automate this, with a third option of manually entering initiative within the SSM user interface.
First option - Decipher the initiative schema in the underlying database, which I have done, and create some Data Services jobs or other ETL tool to load the data. The problem I am having with this option is trying to understand if there is any logic to the creation of the unique initiative ID (Key) and milestone / project / task ID (Keys). Does anyone know how these unique 15 digit keys are created?
Second option - is using the fairly recent Financial Information Management (FIM) solution that has pre-loaded jobs to populate initiatives and KPIs. The problem I see with this method is the Initiative has to be created within SSM first, and it is only kept in sync with FIM. For those not familiar with FIM and SSM, please see this document.
https://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/FIM10/en/fi_10_ssm_en.pdf
Has anyone else has this type of requirement and how has it been addressed?
Looking forward to some advice.
Thanks in advance,
Les Smith

Les,
FIM in this instance is only related to populating the Actual and Budget values from BPC into the Initiative or to populate data for KPI Actuals and targets from BPC into SSM so I'm not sure this is going to help you.
I've no idea if there is any particular logic in the creation of the initiative and milestone IDs. I agree it would be helpful if SAP described this but they seem to have been reticent about this. I was told that they were going to be providing an schema for a large customer where we were involved but haven't seen or heard anything since for a while!
