Hi colleagues,
We are testing the unified IP/BPC functionality on SAP BPC 10.1 NW (but not with HANA), using EPM input schedules and BW/IP ready for input queries on the same BPC model/cube. My question is, if we create a data slice to lock actuals or closed plan versions from IP, how would this impact BPC functionality, and/or if using the work status to lock data from BPC, will prevent the BEX input queries to change the locked data.
I’m searching for some documentation with recommendations or best practices when using the unified version.
I’ll appreciate any feedback or sharing previous experience in this area.
Thanks and regards,
David

Hi All,
In light of above, Could someone suggest if BPC10.1 (Embedded) without HANA is possible even though SAP mandates HANA for it.

Hi Colleagues,
For you that were interested in our test, we have been able to develop a planning model integrating BPC 10.1 and BW/IP functionality, without having HANA, and it's working fine!!!
We are sharing the BPC Cubes and Dimensions, and we are reading and writing back from EPM and IP, even using the standard top down distribution from BEX. We are also using the combined locking and authorization mechanisms from BPC and BW.
The only restriction is that when using the unified model, you need to keep the technical names for cubes and IO, what we are doing by using the corresponding BPC parameter.
What is very interesting about the unified model, specially for planning, is that the IP functionality allows you to build more complex planning scenarios and functions, and the performance is better than with BPC and EPM.
What is not so good, is that you can't execute the BEX input queries from the BPC BPF, so the users need to use two different add-ins in excel.
To avoid this, we are now testing if we can integrate EPM and BEX reports using Analysis for excel, and how all this can be integrated within the BI Launch pad, as we are also using Lumira for dashboards, extracting data from the unified model.
I'm more than interested in sharing experiences with other people that are working with the unified version, with or without HANA.
Regards,
David Kennedy

Hi David,
I would be very interested to see your testing results too with unified without HANA.

Hi David,
Are you testing it or you just have intentions to test?
I'm very curious to see how you can do anything in Embedded model when BPC documentation says that it's impossible to use without HANA. You should be limited to Standard model only.
Please update with any result you have.

Gersh
