Historical balances

Hello everyone,

can anyone here help:

Can migrated historical data (historical balance) be subsequently cancelled in the test system (SAP S/4 HANA Public Cloud).
The system only generates a technical document that cannot be cancelled. No real document is generated.

Is there another way to delete migrated data?

Thank you in advance.
Best regards
N.S.

Hello dear user,

And thank you for asking your question in the SAP Community blog.

In SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud, once you migrate historical financial data (such as opening balances or historical balances) using the "Migrate Your Data" app, these are stored as technical documents, and they cannot be cancelled or reversed in the traditional sense (i.e., no FI document is posted that can be reversed with FB08 or similar).

This is standard system behavior, and you're correct in observing that « the system only generates a technical document that cannot be cancelled ».

Here’s some options you can study on :

Option 1: No Deletion Tool Available in Public Cloud

SAP does not provide a standard tool in S/4HANA Public Cloud to delete migrated data. This restriction ensures data consistency and aligns with audit-compliant practices.

Option 2: Reset the Migration in Test System via SAP Support

If you're in a test client or test system, and you need to reset migrated data, the standard approach is:

Create an SAP incident and request SAP to reset the migration content for the relevant object (e.g., historical balances, open items, etc.).

This is the only supported method for clean-up, especially if the technical objects are already created and cannot be deleted manually.

What you’ll need to provide:

  • System ID / client
  • Migration object used (e.g., "FI – Historical G/L Balances")
  • Confirmation that it is not a production system
  • Reason for reset (e.g., testing error, incorrect balances, testing re-migration)

Option 3: Overwrite Balances with New Migration

If the reset is not possible or feasible, you can consider re-uploading the balances with reversed or corrected values via a new migration object run.

Example:

  • Original upload: +100 USD to GL account
  • New upload: -100 USD to same GL account → Net effect = 0

However, this approach:

  • Creates additional technical entries (it doesn't delete or overwrite the old one),
  • May not be suitable for full clean-up in testing scenarios.

I hope this will help you answer your question.

Best regards,

Jeremy
