Fix and lock TIME & CATEGORY for a BPF Process Template

Hi Experts,

Presently all our planning templates, allow TIME & CATEGORY selection by users. Our requirement is to fix a Planning period(say Planning Year "2014.TOTAL" OR Planning base period "2014.05") and Category(say "Plan0" OR Plan1 - basically a revision) for a BPF Instance, so users work on the fixed period & category, across all activities within the process instance.

If I do the following:

1) Create a Process Template with following settings:

Model and Dimension -> Model: "Sales Planning", Dimensions: TIME,CATEGORY

2) Do not allow user selection of TIME/CATEGORY context members in Input Form (Page Axis)

3) Create process instance

Can I get following results:

Q1) Will the TIME/CATEGORY values be taken while launching the process(instantiating), and context for the same dimensions fixed in all underlying activities of the process?

Q2) Do we have to create new instances, for every new budget/planning period and revision(Plan0, Plan1 etc.)

Q3) If have multiple process templates(Eg: We have Manufacturing, Services & media sectors, each having a separate BPF template and specific activities for them within Sales Planning), do I have to create new instances for each one of them, providing TIME/CATEGORY values for each process template?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks

Hello Rajendran,

You can select Time and Category while creating Instance and the same will be flown to Template.

Kindly select restore dimension while creating Activity in Process template.

Hi experts,

I noticed in BPC 7.5 BPF design, "Inherit context from BPF Instance" was an option, however it is not the case in BPC10.0 NW.

Therefore the context in the workspace always overrides the instance context.

We have over 40 BPF templates with an average of 15 activities. This is a major hassle for us, since we cannot edit workspace context at activity level and create instances every month.

Appreciate any feedback on this issue.

Thx

Hello all,

I noticed members selected for each activity(Add Hyperlink stage), get saved as workspace context. and thisis flowing down to input-forms/reports.

However, the Category/Time dimension members I select during instance creation was used only for display purposes by the instance and was not set as EPM Context.

This is not acceptable to us, since we have over 30 BPF templates with an average 10-15 activities, we obviously cannot set workspace context at activity level, this would be an enormous task - that should be performed repetitively, since we are doing a rolling forecast, every month.

So we are still trying to find out how to go about it..

Thanks for your inputs.

Hi Rajendran,

If you don't want user to select Time and Category through templates then you can remove it.

Q1) Yes when ever you create a new instance it will ask for Time & Category values which will be flown to templates if you have used context member for Time and Category.

Q2) Yes, for every new version and Time we have to create the instance

Q3) Yes.

Thanks Dinesh,

I created the instance and select Category and Time members, accordingly it creates the instance and I can see the context "Plan", & "2016.01(Apr-16)"(I selected) as context under the process, and underneath it all activities.

However, when I open an activity, the instance context does not flow into the template as you said, the input form opens and the EPM Context is showing the default context members(what I would see when a blank worksheet is opened, and what is shown under EPM - Context Options, in the tab "Context Lock").

Is there any other settings or something I am missing?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Rajendran,

If the values from instance to be flown to report/input form then you should select context avaliable in the epm member selector pane for the dimensions in scope for all the templates.

Please ensure that dimensions should not be locked when it flows from instance, under EPM - Context Options, in the tab "Context Lock")  untick the lock button.

Thanks,

Hi Rajendran,

Please select the category and time while creating the process template.

After deployed you can give the Plan for category and 2016.01 for time dimension in your process instance. When you open activities for the same, you can see the fixed category and time.
