Hi,

We have both Win7 and Citrix environment(XenDesktop Win7). We have deployed EPM add-in version 10.0 SP 30 Patch 2. Facing issue in Citrix, when users logging into SAP BPC web interface(IE) and try to launch Excel, it does nothing. Not launching, no error too.It used to work earlier but now its not, not sure what caused this issue. The add in loads fine when launching the Excel directly.

But in Windows 7 Desktop, it launches fine.No issues. Issue only in Citrix.

Office version - Office 2010. Any help would be great.

Hello,

I didn't find anything that was directly related to Citrix. It is possible that it has nothing to do with Citrix but some configuration on Citrix that is different from other client machines.

From what I have found so far this could happen if there are incompatibility between IE, Windows and Office in terms of 64-bit vs. 32-bit. The IE needs to be the same bit size as the installed EPM Add-in. The following were some of the other causes.

  1. Ensure to enable ActiveX setting in IE to Enable.
  2. ensure that the Windows registry entry for office.interop.excel contains correct value

If none of the above are helpful, provide:

  • Version and build number as well as the 64 vs 32 bit for EPM Add-in, Office, and Windows OS on your Citrix server.
  • Describe exactly what happens when users try to launch EPM Add-in from web portal.
  • Are users presented with login screen or nothing happens at all?

Hello Leila,

As per your suggestions, we checked the Active X setting, and nothing different between Windows 7 and Citrix Environment.

Can you tell me, what value should be there for office.interop.excel. application-snapshot.jpgie-version.jpg

I have checked and found that IE and Office are 32 bit.

Windows OS : Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 - 64 bit

IE Version : 11.0.9600.19236

EPM add-in for Microsoft office version : 10.0.0.9992

User is able to login but after login When he clicking the Excel link in the bottom right corner on "SAP analytics add-in for Microsoft Office" and select "EPM Add-in for Microsoft Office Excel" then excel is not opening.Nothing happens, no error too.

Please let me know if you need any more details.

Hello,

I haven't found any reports of SKYPE not working with EPM Add-in. Usually when a problem starts as the result of Microsoft updates and upgrades, it is due to some registry entry being change by the upgrade process. You could report this to SAP support. If you do please include all the things you have done to resolve it and complete details of the build number for SKYPE, Windows and Office.

Regards,

Leila

Hello,

We know of multiple reasons why EPM Add-in does not launch from BPC web client. The best way to find out what is the root cause is by doing further troubleshooting.

Most of the time the issue lies on the Internet Explorer options to basically allow (or not) ActiveX controls to run

  • Here are the steps to double check the required options:
    • In Internet Explorer, Select [Tools] then [Internet Options]
    • Select the [Security] tab
    • Select the appropriate Web content zone and click [Custom Level]
    • Under [ActiveX controls and plug-ins] enable the below options:
      1. Download signed ActiveX controls
      2. Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
      3. Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting
    • Click Ok to save the security settings
    • Click OK to save and close the Internet Options dialog
    • Close Internet Explorer, restart it, and give another try with the html testing page

Otherwise, you can find out what is happening by running a testActiveX.html that we deliver and capturing Fiddler trace.

The details are described in KBA 2462142, which provides a link to Troubleshooting: Unable to open EPM add-in from BPC web client.

Further KBAs that maybe helpful are:

2281806 - Third Party SoftwareRequirements and Recommendations for EPM Add-in

2109470 - Incompatible ActiveX controlalert pops up when visiting BPC web page with IE11

Please go through the recommendations in the KBAs and the guided answer and forward an update, if they were helpful to resolve the issue. Thank you

Hello Leila,

Thanks for the update. We have worked on the provided suggestions but no luck. Later I found that, the Citrix team upgraded Skype for Business 2016 2 months back and that is breaking these add ins. Any resolution for this?

Thanks again.

Hello,

If Excel is not opening my guess is that some required ActiveX implementation or interoperability setting is missing. I will check this further internally and forward any update.

Hi Leila,

What is the required ActiveX and interoperability settings which needs to be set?

Can you tell me, what value should be there for office.interop.excel. We need to close this issue soon as it is running for sometime now.

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

I found a note which maybe relevant for your issue. Please follow the instructions in note 2338108 on your Citrix server. We have also seen issues like this reported when SSO was being used. Let me know if you are using SSO and I forward whatever notes and KBAs I find. Thank you

Hi Leila,

Thanks for your response. I tried repairing office, reinstalling add in and office. Didn't work.

SSO is being used in BPC web interface. As mentioned earlier, I am not getting error to troubleshoot as well. When i click the Excel add-in in BPC Web, it does nothing, but the excel process is running in task manager. Any more suggestions?
