Hi Gurus,
We recently upgraded from SP 10.0.5.2 to BPC MS SP 10.0.16.0.
While the Admin client is working, I am not able to connect to the EPM addin. I am getting an error message stating that : object reference not set to an instance of an object .
I checked the dimensions and hierarchies and they look fine.
Is there a work around for this?
Request clarification before answering.
Finally resolved it with a clean installation.
While installing on multiple servers, the file environmentshell.db10 is supposed to be on the sql server. It was on the app server and it was causing issues. Further, the analysis services was locked out. We also gave port numbers suggested in the installation guide, which were missing previously.

David

Hi David,
First of all, I would recommend to verify that you have installed the ridht version of EPM Add in, if you have Excel 32 bits then you have to install normal version of EPM Addin, if you have Excel 64 bits then you have to install the BIG VOLUME version of EPM Add in. (SAP Note : 1990386 - EPM Add-in: Error launching Office Client: Object

Then try to clear metadata cash when open EPM Addin.
Also take a look at below Notes :
1828291 - BPC MS : Object reference not set to an instance of an
object
Finally if below issue persists, then try to re-install EPM to see if it helps.
Best Regards,
Dorra.

Hi Dorra,
This is a multi server installation. The EPM addin is fine as the same version is used for the test and development systems. I am able to run reports and save data there.
Since the upgrade, we are getting this error. Further, when upgrading it, we got the error: "cannot open backup device '\\<servername>\OsoftSample\EnvironmentShell.db10' Operating System error 5 (Access is denied).
Sap Note: 1681663 said that this could be ignored. After installation, the admin client is working fine but the epm addin is throwing up this error.
Hi David, have you gone to regular excel and checked that the EPM Add-in is not disabled? We've had to enable in excel when we see that message. It usually occurs if excel crashes.
