We are on BPC 10.0 NW Standard Model with EPM SP15 (.NET Framework 3.5) version and planning to upgrade the EPM to SP22 (.NET Framework 4.0) version. Following is the EPM exe file that we downloaded from SAP Service Market Place
EPM Installation prerequisites in Section 3.2 of the installation guide at the following location is getting us all confused about the need for .NET 3.5 SP1
SAP EPM solutions, add-in for Microsoft Office 10.0 – SAP Help Portal Page
If you want to install the EPM Add-in standard version on a Microsoft .NET framework 4.0, you must first ensure that the Microsoft .NET 3.5 SP1 is installed. Otherwise, the application will not function properly.
Does "Standard Version" in the above line stand for "BPC NW Standard Model" or something else?
Our user base:
Excel 2010 32-bit (~40%), Excel 2013 32-bit (~30%), Excel 2010 64-bit (~15%) and Excel 2013 64-bit (~15%)
As mentioned before, we are on BPC NetWeaver with Standard Model
Following is the matrix from SAP note 1849958
What does the "Standard" in the above matrix stand for?
All we would like to know is if .NET 3.5 SP1 is a prerequisite for our users on 32-bit MS Office or not.
Any help is greatly appreciated. If this is not the correct forum then please point me to the correct one. Thanks!

Hi Sam,
Standard in the matrix above means the 32bit EPM add-in. which required .NET 3.5 SP1
so if you want to use the standard version of EPM add in then you have to install .NET 3.5 SP1
My suggestion is to use the big vol version, which is .net 4 or above. Performance wise is much better than .net 3.5, and works for 32 bit and 64 bit of MS office.
when you download the EPM add in it mentions 3.5 (standard) or 4.0 big vol.
nothing to do with which BPC you are using in the backend. (classic/standard or embedded / unified)
latest version of EPM add in is SP 24. rather get the latest.

Andy, thanks for your inputs. I think we downloaded the big volume version from Service Marketplace as shown in the screenshot below. Can you please confirm?
But look at the contradictory SAP note 1764117 below. It says "BIG" requires .NET 3.5 SP1.
Are you using the BIG volume at your client/company? Did you successfully install BIG volume on the machines without .NET 3.5 SP1? Please let me know. Thanks!
Thanks Vadim, we have been testing SP22 with the existing BPC templates for the past couple of months on few unit test machines so we don't want to restart our testing for SP24, though that maybe the latest and greatest.
None of those unit test machines have .NET 3.5 SP1 and we ran into the issues specified in the note 1849958 when we tried to install SP22 using the Microsoft SCCM tools on those machines.
So we did a manual installation on those machines which worked fine and continued with our unit testing of SP22. Now that we are preparing for the user deployment (500+ users), we want to make sure that the SCCM deployment will not fail like it did on the unit test machines. Did lack of .NET 3.5 SP1 cause the SCCM failure - maybe not as the manual installation worked fine but the SAP note 1764117 caused all the confusion as it said "BIG" volume requires .NET 3.5 SP1. If it does then how come our unit test machines worked fine without .NET 3.5 SP1. It's all very confusing to say the least.
Can someone confirm that .NET 3.5 SP1 is NOT required for the following EPM installation file from Service Marketplace?
Most of our users don't have .NET 3.5 SP1 and if that is required then we may need to postpone the deployment because any .NET software installation requires various other teams' involvement to make sure that their applications that use .NET are not getting affected. Thanks for the pointers!
Everything seems to be working fine. Thanks Andy and Vadim!
