EPM add-in Grouping in Protected reports

Hi,

I have used the Excel grouping function to minimise and expand a number of columns. When I protect the report using the sheet options protection I lose the ability to use the + and - signs for grouping. I have tried all of the options on the bottom of that screen but none of them work.

Is there any work around that I can use without using VBA? (We are trying to keep all of our schedules VBA free which I think is good practice.)

Thanks.

If you search Google you will see it's the well known Excel issue not related to BPC - in order to use +/- on the protected sheets you have to add VBA code

Hi Marjin,

Not sure of your exact requirement. In a simple scenario you could use the BPC expand/collapse member functionality (i.e. year/quarter/month). In a scenario where you may want to have a few alternative views (say: either Months of Current Year or 2013.TOTAL, 2014.TOTAL, 2015.TOTAL), you could try EPMDimensionOverride in combination with a droplist where the user selects the desired view.

Unfortunately expand/collapse is not equivalent of +/- grouping.... especially offline!

Hi Cecilia,

Thanks for your suggestion but that does not work for me as some of the stuff I have grouped is based on local members.

I guess there is no other way than to either do the VBA option or to just leave everything expanded.

Hi Marijn,

In our case we have significant number of report users on MAC's - no VBA with MS Office. Have to leave everything expanded.
