Deciphering SAP errors, a pain in the a.s.s indeed

A very common problem among all areas of SAP is the generic errors thrown by SAP. whether they are soft yellow caution errors or the hard red ones they can be the most baffling part of your day. an example is this error I just got

000xxxxx E ZSD 042 Line Item Details Doesn't exists for W Quote number 000000 PRDCLNT100

This error was thrown because the sales rep didn't but all the necessary header data in, but they call and insist SAP is crap and it's all my fault. What are the various ways you run down your SAP errors?
