BPC Cube DATA archive - as data is growing

In a model, the data has grown tremendously. Though deletion/ clearing of old data helps in reducing the size, but requirement is how to Archive the data of the model.( not asking for Audit log Archival)

Request you to discuss a) the possibilities of Data archival for the BPC Model.

b) automation of archival c) How to use archived data for reporting purpose in future.

How often do you want to archive data? Once per year?

Then transferring data using standard /CPMB/LOAD_INFOPROV_UI from BPC cube to another BPC cube is a simple option. Just perform Light Optimize with Zero Elimination before transfer to close yellow request.

Hi Vadim,

Bunch of thanks for giving the idea. I could extend my understanding that DMP using /CPMB/LOAD_INFOPROV_UI will show BPC cubes, besides to BW cubes. I will give a try, to transfer data as mentioned.

Due to the fact that technical names will be used in transformation it's better to have fixed cube names: ENABLE_FIXED_CUBE

And you have to close yellow request before data transfer.

Hi Vadim,

Facing issues in the transformation file when I chose from data type as - Data load from BW infoprovider.

Mapping is maintained as follows, e.g. shown below. Left hand side is target BPC names and right hand side is source technical names of Dimension . Please correct if I am doing anything wrong here. Both BPC cubes are structurally same.

CATEGORY = /CPMB/UDD8DGN DATASRC = /CPMB/UDD741B MEM_PACKAGE = /CPMB/UDD94IW

But line by line 🙂 :

All dimensions has to be specified with correct technical names!

If you want to use archived data for reporting then you need a copy of your environment on the same or different server. You can copy data to this environment using standard load from BW...

Point a - Hopefully the above note answers this.....

point b - If you go with the above note then ask the BASIS person for automation......otherwise if moving to other model then you can create a process chain in BW to trigger after a period of time.

point c - If you require the archive data for reporting purpose in future then I would recommend to export all the data to a flat file and then upload it to a new BPC cube or use destination app! Or you could transfer all the data to a BW standard cube and use the BEx report for future reporting.

I hope you are using Lite Optimization process after data loads to remove the unwanted data and compress the cube

Hi ,

As given in Note 1705431, " Currently, only Data Archiving 3.x is supported by BPC "

Can you help me to understand how to work with this 3.X , as I am on BW 7.X. ( I tried in RSA1, clicking on Infocube , create data archive process, it gives error as no time slice characteristic present in infoprovider.)

Second one, if there is any established process to transfer data from BPC cube to any new BW cube, Kindly share the information.

Hi Srinivas,

I also dont have much knowledge about the BW data archiving process. So its best if you consult a BW consultant or SAP Support for this.

To transfer from BPC to a BW cube as already stated you can export the data to flat file and then upload it to BW cube.
