BPC 10.0 NW and Sept 8, 2015 Office 2013/365 Patch

Hello,

Is anyone else have a lot of strange issues with the EPM add-in on the newest Sept 8,2015 Office 2013/365 patch?

We have EPM SP21 .NET4 version and Office 2013/365 Version: 15.0.4753.1002 released Sept 8, 2015.

  • When logged into EPM, Excel has a hard time recognizing which window is on top if you have multiple windows open (if you go to close, it tries to close the Excel window behind your open one instead.) If you delete cells it tries to delete them in the workbook behind it also.
  • Having issues with things as simple as copying and pasting not working (copying works, pasting doesn't paste anything)
  • When clicking the Save Data button it doesn't always work (probably related to it not recognizing what workbook it's referring to)
  • Renaming tab names in Conversion files fails with an odd error stating you can put symbols in the tab name even though I'm not
  • When in conversion files, you can't use the Delete key (because it deletes cells from workbooks behind it instead of the conversion file.) If you switch to a different tab and back, this seems to remedy itself, but if you have a conversion file with 1 tab, you have to create a new tab, switch to it, and then switch back to get it to work properly.

Is anyone else on this Office Release and having similar issues?

Thanks,

Alex

FYI, SAP has acknowledged this as a bug, but is pushing back on Microsoft to find a solution for this. I'll post if I hear anything from Microsoft, but we are going to open an Incident with them next to look for a resolution.

SAP referenced this note in relation to my issue and said they would update this with any further information if anyone else has similar issues, hopefully it will be resolved soon...

I will update here as well if I get any resolutions from Microsoft or if both companies give us the runaround on this...

Thanks for the update, we're also seeing similar behavior in Excel 2013 with security patch MS15-099.

Hi Alex,

And what about the latest EPM SP like 23? Same effect?

Hello Vadim,

I haven't tried on SP23 (haven't downloaded that patch before.) Although Member Recognition would not work properly for us on SP22, so we stuck with SP21.

I will probably have to download SP23 and check because I will have to open a note regarding it with SAP soon and they will ask me to do the same..

Thanks,

Alex

"ask me to do the same" - yes

Well, being the patch was released 2 weeks ago, I doubt SAP has a specific fix for it, unless SP23 just happens to have accounted for the bugs before they were released...

Not "accounted" but by mistake They may use slightly different sequence of events etc...

My guess is that it has something to do with this...:

"MS15-099 resolves vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office that could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted Microsoft Office file”

Or like you said, sequence of events, because it really seems like Excel can't figure out what workbook is active anymore once EPM is logged into...

I downloaded SP23 Patch1 and the issue remains. I will open an Incident with SAP and see what they say.

I'm guessing no one here keeps up-to-date on Office 365 patches (I wish we didn't...)

Office patches have to be tested for compliance with other software...
