We have existing items that need to have the packaging reworked before they can be sold.
We would like to capture the added cost of the labor and the new packaging with a BOM/Production Order, but are having issues because the parent item will need to include itself as a child to capture the original cost of the item and the additional costs mentioned above. We cannot just create a modified version of the item because it has the same barcode and the system restricts this from happening.
Furthermore, we are continuing to purchase the parent item from our vendors, so we cannot turn the Purchase Item box off in the item master data table.
I know there are different types of BOMs, but I have not found one that will enable this type of functionality.
If anyone has experienced this requirement before, how did you structure the workflow?
