Account reclassification

Hi People,

Hope you are well.

I have planning to move accounts from one child hierarchy to another child hierarchy.

Assume,I have one parent hierarchy and have two child hierarchies under it namely Out source and Marketing, then now planning move few accounts from Out source to Marketing and vice versa as per financial team needed.

So if i move accounts then my historical data/amount get change for Out source and marketing for sure. How can i work around this scenario without effecting historical data and this account reclassification activity has to do every end of the financial year.

Please advice.

Thanks,

Vishu

Ups, I am not sure that TDH is the right solution for this case...

"reclassification activity has to do every end of the financial year"

Just create new accounts under required parent and perform reclassification using journal.

Please explain what do you mean by: "reclassification activity has to do every end of the financial year"

In general you can't simply move accounts from one parent to another from the financial point of view. It has to be a transaction confirmed with some document. It can be done in ERP or in BPC.

Please talk with finance people!

  - Clients wants to move accounts from one child hierarchy to another child hierarchy as per their financial point of view right after their financial year completed.

Assume Under PARENTH1 hierachy, Outsource and marketing are child nodes.

In finance you don't move accounts, you move money

You need to have 2 sets of accounts under 2 parents and you move money between the mentioned accounts.

During the year target accounts will be empty and after year close the target accounts will receive some values and the source accounts will be zeroed.

Ok Vadim thanks for clarification.

But,This is my client idea to move accounts from one node to another node and currently i am not aware why they want to move like this?

A lot of clients have a lot of ideas Some clients even want to have "creative accounting"

It's your job to talk with finance people and to understand the business process first of all. Not just "we want to move accounts"

Sorry, but I don't support actions performed without understanding of business process...

By the way your BPC SP is very old!

No vadim, I am not going to action performed in client production server and i understood your words.

I was just trying to understand TDH in my office server, not in Client server.

If you want to experiment with TDH then please upgrade your BPC and BW to the recent SP's

P.S. And search for the notes related to TDH

Hi Vishu....

It is supported from SP09 onwards.....and yours is SP08. Please upgrade if you want to use TDH...

Since BPC NW version 10 SP09, BPC officially supports the time dependent hierarchy for dimensions which allows business users to see data reflected differently based on changes to master data hierarchy by time.

Given in the link provided by me.....first link!

Hi JP,

You are talking about 800 SP and the topic author use 801.

Please be accurate

Vadim

Vadim....In front of 801 under SP level column it is 0008. I was referring to that.

You have to know the relation between SP numbers for 800 and 801

Okay.....so when SAP says its supported from BPC 10 SP09 which release are they referring to? 800 or 801?

I am sorry I don't have much knowledge on release differences.

They are referring to 800!

If you open any SP central note (not very early) you will see that 801 is separately mentioned with different smaller number.

Ok...Thanks Vadim for the great info! Small small things..

And also you have different numbers for 810

For some recent corrections you have 3 numbers: 800,801 and 810

Sometimes there are notes that also affect BPC 7.5: 750, 753...

Hi Vishu.....It should be "ENABLE_TIME_DEPENDENT_HIER", "P" is missing....In the document they have given the incorrect spelling but in screenshot it is given correctly.

Hope this helps...

Yes !

Copy/paste without checking result in issues like this

P.S. And if you search for "ENABLE_TIME_DEENDENT_HIER"

you will see a lot of persons with copy/paste skills!

For Notes...one easily see the SP the release numbers but in case of documents, HTG and blogs.....sometimes it is difficult to know it,not mentioned in most cases. Anyways...Thanks a lot!

Hi Vadim and JP,

Is it possible to choose a specific "key date" for time-dependent hierarchies in the formula "EPMRetrieveData". I mean cell based EPM Retrieve data formula?

I think EPMRetrive data is taking always Current Date only.

Thanks,

Vishu

Vishu,

I dont think keydate would be specified in epmretrieve data function. The function will always take the specified members in the function and those whose members not specified will be taken from the context.

JP

Hi JP,

Thanks for the replay and it is really nice information.

We already had in production system and running since from two years.

Is it possible change them now?

Thanks,

Vishu

Vishu....Yes it would be possible to change....But then as you stated earlier it might not show you the historical data under the old node. And the user would like to see the historical data!

Craeting new accounts for the other node would not be a good solution as there might be often changes in the hierarchy shifting!

Currently to my mind I can think of creating a new model with time dependent hierarchy for accounts and put the current data in that and you can refer to the historical data from old model as is it with the old hierarchical structure.

Hope this helps....

JP
