We are running an asset depreciation job in SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud and receiving the following error:

Account 64004000 requires an account assignment relevant to cost accounting
Message no. KI235

The asset in question already has a cost center assigned in the asset master data, and we do not want to override or use any other cost center.

Could you please help clarify why the system is still requiring a separate CO assignment during depreciation, even though it’s already maintained in the asset master?
Also, is there a way to ensure the system always pulls the cost center from the asset master automatically during depreciation?

We want to avoid maintaining default account assignments or substitutions for this scenario, since the correct cost center is already maintained on the asset.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Dear user,

In S/4HANA Public Cloud, for manual journal entries or accounting postings that aren’t asset-specific transactions, the system doesn’t always derive the cost center from the asset master, even though it’s technically maintained there.

This is due to:

  • The account assignment logic in the standard journal entry app.
  • The lack of direct asset subledger involvement in some postings.
  • The fact that account assignments like cost centers are driven by account determination logic rather than the asset master itself.

Do not hesitate if you need some more details.

Best regards,

Jeremy

Hello dear user,

The message you get is due to a missing entry for the G/L account 64004000 in the default account assignment configuration that you can find in the SSCUI 102639.

I hope this will help you solve your problem.

Hello Jeremy! Yes I understand that the Manage Default Account Assignment could be the solution, but that is not what we want. Why do we have to use a default cost center when there's already one maintained in the fixed asset master data?
