Hello experts,

We have a BTP account and have several sub accounts in it which do not have ABAP instance setup in them.

Can we still add these sub accounts to the ABAP eclipse or we need to create an ABAP instance for them first ?

We would like to debug our app when we run it in these sub accounts by setting them up in the eclipse.

Appreciate your inputs.

abap eclipse is only for btp abap, if you don't have btp abap,  story ends.

You cannot add or register BTP subaccounts to ABAP in Eclipse (ABAP Development Tools, ADT). The connection from ABAP in Eclipse is always based on a dedicated system connection. It means, the ABAP instance must exist. To connect to a BTP ABAP instance in ABAP in Eclipse, please open the Project Explorer in ADT, choose New -> ABAP Cloud Project and specify the URL of the ABAP instance. The same is true for development access to an ABAP instance of S/4HANA Cloud, public edition. Usage of ADT is not limited to these two products. It is the recommended IDE for all kind of ABAP development since years. Development of some objects like Core Data Services (CDS Views) and other RAP objects is only supported in ADT
