Hello SAP Community,

We are encountering an issue with transaction AB08 (Asset Posting Reversal) after closing fiscal year 2024 and attempting to reverse a December 2024 posting in March 2025. Despite generating document numbers, the reversal fails with critical errors. Here are the details:

Scenario:

1. Background:

   • Fiscal year 2024 was closed (retirement ABAVN executed, physical year closure completed).

   • In March 2025, identified an error in a December 2024 asset posting.

   • Trying to reverse via AB08 (document numbers generated, but reversal does not update asset history).

2. Error Details:

   • Message: Express document update was cancelled received from author.

   • System Log: SYST:ANEP not updated (Contact your System Specialist).

   • Transaction: AB08 completes "successfully" but leaves no trace in asset records (AW01N shows no reversal).

Steps Taken So Far:

1. Authorization Checks:

   • IT confirmed user has permissions for AB08 and postings in closed periods (S_ALR_87012333, F_ABAA_REV).

   • SU53 shows no missing authorizations during the transaction.

2. Fiscal Year/Period Settings:

   • December 2024 period was reopened via OB52 (status: "Open").

   • Checked OAAQ (Asset Accounting Status) – FY 2024 shows "closed" but posting allowed.

3. Technical Checks:

   • IT debugged AB08 and confirmed no custom code/BAdIs interfere.

   • ST22/SM21 logs show no dumps or errors.

   • SM12 confirms no locks on assets or documents.

4. Asset-Specific Checks:

   • AW01N shows the asset is retired but no dependencies (transfers, etc.).

   • Original document (FB03) is fully posted with no parked items.

1. SYST:ANEP Not Updated:

   • What typically causes the SYST:ANEP error during AB08 reversals? Could index tables (ANEP/ANEK) be inconsistent?

2. Authorization Message:

   • Despite having permissions, why does the system claim the update was "cancelled received from author"? Are there hidden authorization objects (e.g., S_ABAA_ADM)?

3. Fiscal Year Conflicts:

   • Does reopening periods via OB52 fully suffice, or are there additional checks in OAAQ/OBH2 that block reversals?

4. SAP Notes/OSS:

   • Has anyone resolved this via specific SAP Notes? Our IT checked Note 2353056 (similar SYST:ANEP issues) but found no fix.

5. Debugging Tips:

   • What system tables/function modules should we trace during AB08 to identify where the reversal gets canceled?
