Your planners like Microsoft EXCEL? They praise its transparency of data, its visualization capabilities and functional richness. And they ask for your help when they find their data is outdated or they get lost in too many sheets and versions while you are concerned about data security. Then you face the planning dilemma between spreadsheet-like flexibility and integration-based data control.

In the past this was a contradiction and you either served one or the other depending on the technology you chose. With SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation ‘embedded model’ you now have a technology at hand that spans the spectrum between these poles.

Building the BPC ‘embedded’ model, we start with the data driven architecture of BW / BW-IP. This is functional wise very strong and provides the full data integration of an Enterprise Data Warehouse. However it is difficult to use and inflexible. Hence we add the Application driven approach of the BPC ‘standard’ model, which provides tailored functionality for line-of-business users with great end-user experience and flexibility. That way we connect flexibility with data integration. Even more we allow a scenario to grow from an agile and flexible but simple one to a more complex one leveraging all features available in the engines.

In the following blogs of this series we will give you more insight into the ‘embedded’ model of BPC by shedding light into its architecture and typical use-cases and scenarios. On a weekly basis we will have new material for you. So stay tuned.
