November 2019
We’re delighted to announce the general availability of
SAP Convergent Charging 5.0 Support Package 5 (SP 5). With SP 5, we continue our UX renovation to provide a best-in-class, consistent, and modern user experience to our customers through the adoption of the SAP Fiori user experience design. In particular, we now provide the ability for pricing specialists to entirely manage range tables with SAP Fiori apps. With SP 5, we also provide a new standard integration to SAP S/4HANA Cloud for Contract Accounting and Invoicing.
This blog provides you with the latest and greatest SP 5 highlights of our pricing and charging platform, part of the
SAP Billing and Revenue Innovation Management (BRIM) suite.
User Experience
Faster and more intuitive management of range tables with new SAP Fiori apps for pricing specialists
After having introduced SAP Fiori apps for managing mapping tables in the SAP Convergent Charging Cockpit, we are introducing, with SP 5, two new Fiori apps for managing range tables.
Range tables are tables that are typically used in price plans to look block, volume, or tiered pricing up based on ranges. Their structures including the definition of upper bounds, input and output columns are called
range table classes.
The first app –
Manage Range Table Classes – allows pricing specialists to search, view, create, copy, edit, and delete range table classes.
The second app –
Manage Range Tables – allows pricing specialists to search, view, create, copy, edit, and delete range tables. It also enables pricing specialists to import data from and export data to a CSV file.
Faster and more intuitive management of chargeable item classes with a new SAP Fiori app for pricing specialists
Chargeable item classes define the structure of usage events coming from external metering systems and are used inside price plans.
This new app –
Manage Chargeable Item Classes – allows pricing specialists to search, view, create, copy, edit, and delete chargeable item classes.
Improved user experience with SAP Fiori 3 design implementation, persistence of draft objects across sessions, and enhanced export of table values in an audit log
With SP 5, we are introducing SAP Fiori 3 design in the SAP Convergent Charging Cockpit, implementing a new default theme -
SAP Quartz Light - as well as a new shell bar for a consistent user experience across SAP products.
We also enhanced draft handling with persistence of drafts across user sessions. A user who has logged out of the system, leaving pending drafts, will be able to continue working on those drafts on the next login.
Lastly, we have replaced the export of table snapshots with a human-readable export of values of table snapshots in a CSV format in the
Display User Operations app for system administrators.
Integration
New integration with SAP S/4HANA Cloud for Contract Accounting and Invoicing
As a SP 5, a new integration scenario is available to integrate SAP Convergent Charging in the cloud (deployed on HANA Enterprise Cloud infrastructure) with
SAP S/4HANA Cloud for Contract Accounting and Invoicing. In this scenario, billable items created by SAP Convergent Charging are pushed to Convergent Invoicing in the cloud.
On the technical side, new Web service interfaces have been introduced to manage the communication with SAP S/4HANA Cloud back and forth.
Platform
Better memory management for optimal performance
As we continue our optimization journey to provide our customers with a more efficient pricing and charging platform while keeping its TCO low, we optimized memory used by rating context objects. Indeed, for optimal performance, rating context objects are put in memory. Over time, as price plans evolve and new price plans are configured in the system, more and more objects are loaded in memory. At a certain point in time, this amount of memory may become too high and, consequently, have a negative effect on performance. With SP 5, in order to make sure that the memory used by rating context objects remains under control and do not impact performance, we introduced a way to limit the memory used by rating context objects.
Simplification of the installation with an SAP ASE database
We listened to the feedback of our customers and database experts. The installation of SAP Convergent Charging with an SAP ASE database has been simplified. The database schema is now using the default segment.
