GRC Tuesdays: All I Want for Christmas is Cyber Safety

Do you know what happened in 2016?

So many great things!

Netflix added offline downloads, a leading environmental group reclassified giant pandas as a “vulnerable” species rather than “endangered” one… and we released the very first GRC Tuesdays Christmas song!

This year, we took inspiration from Rolling Stone that ranked All I Want for Christmas Is You amongst “The Greatest Rock and Roll Christmas Songs”.

So, get ready, put your Santa hat on, check the video to remember the tempo and start singing along.



 

Background: Our main character/singer here is a security expert and is a few minutes away from their well-deserved annual end of year vacation

 

Ready, set, got my sunglass’

Bags packed and leave agreed

Looking forward to some indulgence

 

During my long trip at sea

… But I can’t leave it alone

There are threats that grow

Make my wish come true

That our security holds through

Yeah

 

To protect what’s really precious

I’ve rolled at hyper speed

Just before I left the office, and on a protection spree

A long password policy, with upper and lower case

Fifty signs and more to keep those many hackers at bay

 

I wish I had shut my phone

Can’t pretend I just don’t know

Password’s for renew

Need to find one, it’s due

Due, truly

 

Oh, I’m not asking for a free-pass

Just don’t want to be a foe

Need to keep data and info, secure from threats high and low

Ransom, malware, zero day, brute force, fishing take your pick

I just hope people will think twice, ‘bout this mail before they click…

So need to refine access right

It’s the thing to do

Oh maybe, so that you can see my value

True safety

 

Oh-Oh, to build and sustain trust we have no time to spare

Time to secure all our firmware

And before the threat is rising

And alarm bells ringing

Won’t you log activities in a single feed?

Won’t you encrypt and test for me?

 

Much like a strong cuirass

And to protect the core

Prevent data breach, identify and mitigate any back door

 

I think I might need a clone

Or maybe a cyber Hero

Make my wish come true

Oh CISO, I just want a complete crew

Crew, already!

 

I do hope that you are not as desperate as our main character here and that you can take some time off during the year end period without having cybersecurity on your mind too much!
