Financial Planning is great start for Enterprise Business Planning

One of Henri Fayol still very relevant 14 principles of management was “Unity of Direction” which articulated the value of an aligned plan across the enterprise. This is super critical for business to have aligned plan.

Technologies have evolved essentially to make this alignment happen more and more seemless. ERP was one of the key innovations that helped getting the process aligned. Next wave is to see performance management and planning facilitate the alignment for quick decision making.

I am always fascinated about moving towards a real “Enterprise Business Planning” architecture. The tip of the iceberg is financial planning. Like what happened around ERP which also started with financial ledger, the planning process is centered around financial planning as great starting point.

Extend the investment in SAP New GL

Any ERP implementation involves a lot of thought process is crafting the business model into the ERP, whether it’s the structure of accounts, or the identification of profit/cost centers or configure the various companies – with necessary relationship built between these to reflect the right business model, in order to get the data available in a useful way to understand the business. Now when such an effort is invested and reinvested, lot of our SAP customers would like to extend this intelligence into the Analytics and Business Planning.
