SAP Financial Consolidation 10.0 Support Package 15 (SP15) is available since October 15, 2014 and delivers major new features, in particular faster data transfer to target applications such as SAP Business Warehouse (BW) through SAP Financial Information Management. SAP Financial Information Management is our web-based solution that allowing business end-users to maintain mappings between source and target applications, launch and monitor data loading processes and trace data in order to determine its origin. SAP Financial Information Management offers SAP Financial Consolidation connectivity to both SAP and non-SAP applications, moving data from a source to a target system. Before SP15, extracting data from SAP Financial Consolidation and loading it to target systems such as SAP Business Warehouse was slow. To speed up the transfer process, both SAP Financial Information Management 10.0 SP11 and SAP Financial Consolidation 10.0 SP15 have been optimized. This improvement was notably requested by our customers using SAP Financial Consolidation in combination with SAP Business Warehouse but also applies for non-SAP target applications.

Typical extraction process

The diagram below depicts the typical extract-transform-load process from SAP Financial Consolidation to a target application through SAP Financial Information Management. The optimization performed in SP15 focuses on the extraction process highlighted in red.

Before SP15

Four components are working when extracting data from Financial Consolidation: the Data Services job server, the SAP Financial Consolidation web service, the CtServer and finally SAP Financial Information Management database server. The architecture diagram below describes how the extraction process works prior to SAP Financial Consolidation 10.0 SP15 and SAP Financial Consolidation 10.0 SP11. In total 6 steps are needed and the most consuming one, from a performance perspective, is to parse data (step #5, highlighted in red).

With SP15

Today with SAP Financial Consolidation 10.0 SP15 and SAP Financial Consolidation 10.0 SP11 the process is dramatically simplified:

  • No more iterations between components

  • 4 steps instead of 6

  • Direct and straightforward line to SAP Financial Information Management

  • Less stressed jobs

  • Leaner and faster process

SAP Labs benchmarks on data extraction process speed*

Testing results from benchmarks performed at SAP Labs show significant performance gains. Tests were performed on medium size (~100,000 rows) and large size (~650,000 rows) extraction scenarios. Both overall and export times have been measured and compared before SP15 and withSP15. For a medium job, the overall time is 3x faster with SP15 (2 min. 29 sec.) with SP15 compared to 6 min. 45 sec. before) and the export is 10x faster (28 sec. compared to 4 min. 45 sec.). As per the large job, the overall time with SP15 is 12x faster (15 min. 03 sec. compared to 3 h. 01 min. 38 sec.) and the export is 57x faster (2 min. 57 sec. vs. 2 h. 48 min. 57 sec.). Please note that actual performance results may vary depending on system configurations, servers, architectures, networks and storage used.
