SAP used to offer several Add-ins into Microsoft Office, Analysis Office (AO) and EPM Add-in were the most prominent ones among them. As several customers have requested to run them in parallel in the same workbook, SAP has moved them to a common Office layer that has enabled parallel usage. As of the Analysis Office 2.1 release, both Analysis and EPM features have been converged into a single client with a single installer.
Terminology: SAP calls the product
Analysis Office (add-in). This product contains a ribbon tab with Analysis features, which we refer to as
Analysis plug-in, and a ribbon tab with EPM features, which we refer to as
EPM plug-in. This means, you can use the EPM plug-in as part of Analysis Office (add-in).
The common installer facilitates the roll-out of both Analysis and EPM functionalities and it reduces potential dependencies (between the plug-ins).
Uncertainty about which Office Client to use on top of BPC Embedded can exist.
For each new BPC scenario, SAP recommends the following plug-in:
- For any BPC 10.1 standard model, SAP recommends to use EPM plug-in (EPM tab of AO)
- For BPC 10.1 embedded model, SAP recommends to use the Analysis plug-in due to its best integration into BW meta data. EPM plug-in has some architectural limitations and will not receive any functional enhancements on the BPC 10.1 embedded model.
