 October 2024

We’re thrilled to announce that from October 8th, 2024, the Subscription Order Management 2023 FPS02 release is now generally available for our customers. This latest release introduces a suite of user-friendly features, enriched Fiori enhancements, and advanced integration capabilities—that is designed to elevate your user experience and optimize system performance.

Let's dive into the latest product features, which include the display of charging data, an ad-hoc billing scheduling option, and the newest integration of SOM with GTS. Additionally, we’ve introduced product substitution, advanced listing and exclusion functionalities, and enhanced pricing capabilities with SAP Convergent Charging (SAP CC) along with numerous other functional enhancements. Let’s delve deeper into these features in detail

Display Charging Data for Subscription Contract

Imagine a telecom service provider who is constantly evolving to offer more personalized and flexible subscription plans to meet the diverse needs of their customers. Such subscription plans for mobile data services may have several counters and parameters which are updated based on the customer’s usage. Assume a common scenario that includes offering mobile data services with specific data usage limits, additional charges for overages, and other parameters that need to be tracked. Managing such parameters efficiently is crucial to delivering a seamless customer experience.

However, the challenge arises when telecom operators need to track these counters and parameters—such as data usage limits, overage charges, and additional plan features—across multiple systems. Previously, sales representatives and back-office agents had to manually navigate between different platforms, like SAP Convergent Charging (SAP CC), to retrieve crucial information about customer data usage and charges.

Thanks to the new integrated experience within Subscription Order Management, telecom operators can now provide their business users, such as Sales Representatives & back-office agents with seamless information regarding the customer’s real-time usage data from counters, associated parameters and linked technical resources mapped. Subscription Order Management streamlines the process by displaying SAP CC data directly within Display Charging Data for Subscription Contracts Fiori App.

This new integration eliminates the need for manual navigation to SAP CC, thus empowering business users with real-time insights into customer data usage and helping them respond quickly to customer inquiries or upselling opportunities.

Some of the key highlights of this feature:

  • Empower your users to have real-time visibility into SAP CC counters and parameters along with associated charges, without needing to navigate into SAP CC for this information
  • Have greater flexibility in upselling with plan upgrades or add-ons with informed data-driven decisions.

Ad Hoc Billing Schedule for fixed-price Subscriptions

In the previous release, we introduced how periodic billing schedules can provide your customers with a tailored billing experience based on their preferences. We also explored how periodic billing can support scenarios like ramp-up/down pricing, applying discounts with a shorter validity than the contract term, setting different recurring amounts per billing cycle, and other flexible options. For more details on this feature and its capabilities, check out the 2023 FPS1 blog and the video below. We're thrilled that this feature has been well-received by our c...

With this release, we’ve extended the feature to support ad hoc billing schedules for fixed-price subscriptions. This new capability enables you to model scenarios where the fixed price of a contract can be divided into multiple planned installments (not restricted or based on the billing cycle) over the contract's duration. This flexibility allows your customers to break down the Total Contract Value (TCV) into installments with varying amounts on customized, uneven dates, based on their specific requirements. This will ease your customers to pay off significant portions of the fixed price in a manageable way over the course of the subscription.

Subscription Order Integration with GTS

In today’s interconnected global economy, adhering to international trade regulations is not only a legal requirement but also a crucial factor in maintaining your company’s global reputation and avoiding costly fines. When your business manages subscription orders across multiple countries, compliance with trade regulations can become a complex and resource-intensive process. With this release, we have now established integration subscription orders and solution quotations with SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS) to offer a powerful solution to streamline trade compliance.

With this integration, SAP GTS ensures that your business meets critical international trade compliance rules by conducting a series of checks, like the Embargo Check, Sanctioned Party List Screening, and Product License (Legal Control) Check. Your compliance manager will be able to manage the blocked documents to take necessary steps directly from the GTS system. This empowers your company to navigate the complexities of global trade with confidence, while automating compliance processes within the subscription order workflow.

In the upcoming releases, you will be able to perform GTS compliance checks for subscription contracts. This enhancement will manage the complexity of compliance checks for existing contracts, change process and many other critical business processes as part of the standard offering. Stay tuned for our upcoming release.

Simplifying Subscription Order Management with Product Substitution, Listing, and Exclusion

Imagine a global Ed-tech company managing millions of digital subscriptions, while also needing to keep content updated, compliant, and relevant. One of the key challenges for such Ed-tech providers is effectively managing product substitution, listing, and exclusion. But how can Subscription Order Management make a real difference here? Let’s explore our latest feature and how it can support your subscription business.

Product Substitution: Keeping Content Current

Imagine that when a particular textbook or digital course module becomes outdated and your company wants to ensure that students have access to the latest material. The product substitution feature enables the Ed-tech provider to seamlessly replace discontinued materials with new editions, automatically supplying students with up-to-date content. This feature helps eliminates the need for back-office agents to manually handle subscriptions, resulting in smoother operations and lower costs.

Listing & Exclusion: Customizing Content for Compliance

Ed-tech companies often serve diverse regions and institutions with varying regulations. With listing and exclusion capabilities, you can now control the visibility of specific materials based on regional or institutional restrictions. Based on your configuration, you can ensure that only authorized content is available to customers, giving your company more control over which materials can be accessed and purchased and helping to prevent compliance issues.

  • Ability to influence dependent product listing with the help of exclusion and CMIR capabilities.
  • Automatically handling discontinued products to reduce the need for manual intervention by back-office agents, thereby reducing operational costs.
  • Maintain condition-based specific material for specific customers.
