Usage-Based Pricing Subscription Model

In response to the growing demand for more complex subscription scenarios, SAP CPQ has significantly evolved its support for subscription businesses with the introduction of Usage-Based Pricing. This model charges customers based on their consumption, with prices and conditions set upfront. It supports three key scenarios:

  • Usage with no Recurring Fees
  • Usage as Part of a Subscription with Recurring Fees
  • Subscription Service with Mixed Recurring Charges and Usage Fees.

These new capabilities offer the flexibility you need to accommodate diverse business models. They help you better serve customers' needs in industries with usage-based charging requirements. This release marks another significant step in SAP CPQ's commitment to supporting the evolving needs of modern businesses. For more information, see Usage-Based Pricing.

Sales Area

Focusing on the Suite first portion of SAP strategy, we are introducing the Sales Area concept available in SAP S/4HANA. This approach replaces the previous Market and Pricebook concepts in CPQ and offers a more integrated way of managing sales-relevant master data and transacting with those. Customers can benefit from reduced implementation costs and increased system stability, as it eliminates the need for custom data replication and complex custom data structures in CPQ. The Sales Area ensures that product and business partner availability in quotes is controlled based on the selected sales area, streamlining the quoting and ordering process.

What is MVP scope:

  • New Sales Area entities in SAP CPQ
  • Sales Organizations
  • Distribution Channels
  • Divisions
  • Payment terms
  • Shipping conditions
  • Incoterms
  • Products (Basic info, Sales area, UOM)
  • Business partners (General, Sales Area)
  • Quote (New and replaced fields)
  • Integration with SAP VCPS is updated to leverage sada OOTB

More about this feature you will find in separate blog post {{LINK WILL BE UPDATED}}

SAP CPQ Configurations V2 API Launch

SAP CPQ introduced Configurations V2 API (Headless CPQ), enabling external UIs to access SAP CPQ's configuration logic and pricing without system login. For more information, see Configurations V2 API (Headless CPQ).

Dynamic Access Control for Quote Item Custom Fields

Access level permissions on Quote Item Custom Fields can now be dynamically set through scripting in Quote 2.0. This feature allows users to control the editability, read-only status, and visibility of fields, enhancing customization and security in managing quotes. Please note this will only work if script is written under Setup->Fields, Calculations, Layout->Field editability

Provides methods to set field access for:

  • Item cells: SetAccessLevel(item, field, level)
  • Columns: SetColumnAccessLevel(field, level)
  • Product types: SetAccessLevelForProductType(ProductTypeId, field, level)
  • Sections: SetAccessLevelForSection(sectionName, field, level)
  • Totals: SetAccessLevelForCartTotal(field, level).

Bonus tip: For performance you should use context.PagedItems as with this you will be updating only actually visible items

For more information, see Dynamic Access Control for Quote Item Custom Fields.

Executing Custom Quote Actions via Scripting

As of the 2511 release, you can execute custom quote actions in Quote 2.0 within the Workflow context through scripting.

The SAP CPQ system checks all the permissions and conditions defined in the Workflow for these actions to ensure that only available custom quote actions are executed. For each available action, the system performs pre-actions and post-actions and sends notifications. The list of available custom quote actions is also returned in scripting. For more information, see the section Execute Custom Quote Actions via Scripting within Workflow.

Custom Mappings for Pricing Date in Quote Items

While since last year it was possible to define item-specific pricing date mappings for integration with SAP Variant Configuration and Pricing now we are bringing flexibility to a next level as any pricing date that needs to be passed in AccessSequence list can be mapped in the Item-Specific Pricing section on the General Attribute Mappings page in the Setup. Some of common use cases are:

  • Item Pricing Date (KOMK-PRSDT)
  • Item Service Date (KOMK-FBUDA)
  • Billing date (KOMK-FKDAT)
  • Creation date (KOMK-ERADAT)
  • Order date (KOMK-AUDAT)

Better Conflict Resolution for Variant Configuration Products

While using CPQ models it is not possible to get into a conflict when using integration (A)VC logic supported throguh integration with SAP Variant Configuration and Pricing this is quite common. What is changing:

  • Conflicts are grouped better
  • Nogoods part of payload is used to identify attributes which caused conflicts
  • Additional control as now it is possible to define on user type if inconsistent configurations can be added to a quote
  • Conflict resolution is much faster as users can simply click on the conflict and get navigated to a problematic characteristic

Enhanced Accessibility for Quote 2.0 Engine

SAP CPQ now fully supports SAP product standard for accessibility, ensuring an inclusive experience for all users, including those with disabilities. This compliance meets global accessibility guidelines such as WCAG 2.1 Level AA, US Section 508, and BITV 2.0, focusing on the User part of SAP CPQ and the Quote 2.0 engine.

Enhanced Quote List Navigation and Saved Search Naming

As of 2511 release, there will be separate tabs for each quote list section, including My QuotesOther Quotes, and Waiting for approval. SAP CPQ has also introduced the possibility to name saved searches, which enhances user experience by simplifying the retrieval of specific filter combinations. For more information, see Quote Visibility.
