In this blog post, we'll explore how to create and edit error specific messages for validation rules, using your own parameters in the Manage Substitution/Validation apps. These apps are used across various sectors, including Joint Venture Accounting, Sales Accounting, Group Reporting, and more. I will also show you how to maintain custom error messages.
I will demonstrate how to do this using the Manage Substitution and Validation for Public Sector app (App ID: F7603). You will need the BPC Expert role assigned to your user.
First, let’s first look at how to create a rule.
Choose ‘Validation Rule’ as your rule type.
(Please note that error messages are only available for validations)
Select your Business Context and Event.
Choose ‘Create’ and fill out the ‘Preconditions’.
Maintaining custom error messages
You have the option of defining your own message class. This needs to be done upfront with developer extensibility. If you don’t have your own message class, you can use the standard message class FINRE_UI_STD. There, you can find a set of predefined messages with variables which need to be filled out by the customer.
The message 000, especially, allows a lot of flexibility in defining your own message text.
The parameters can be filled with constants, or field/functions.
Fill out the parameters with the variables you want to see in your error message, for example let’s use Cost Center for parameter 1, and Test for parameter 2, using constant.
As you can see below, Cost Center and Test appear in your error message:
“Value for field Cost Center doesn’t comply with validation rule Test”.
Conclusion
Creating and editing validation rules with custom error messages in the Manage Substitution/Validation apps is a straightforward process that allows you to fine-tune your validations and error messages. By following these steps, you can ensure that your rules are executed according to your specific needs, making your workflow more efficient and user-friendly.
