You are not authorised to edit ABAP Code (AQ148) in SQ02

In our company, power users are given access to SQ02 in order to develop reports. The capability of this transaction is currently seriously restricted by the lack of authorisation to edit ABAP Code. If you try to do this you get error "You are not authorised to edit ABAP Code (AQ148)". I've put in a request but the IT Security Team are reticent to resolve it because "authorizations for S_DEVELOP is needed which actually should not get provided outside IT". How do other organisations resolve this. We are not looking for developer access but the ability to include simple ABAP Code in SQ02 is fairly fundamental. Surely there is a pragmatic way around this.

Hi samwardill11,

I am not going to make this a complex answer, but you could also consider connecting exploration tools like PowerBI or building an external DW layer.

Making it more simple, depending on the data you need - you might just export the tables and work externally to SAP if your security team do not allow you to use SQXX with the ABAP capabilities you need.

In other companies, the access to ABAP capabilities is limited to a small number of technical team members that have that in their job description. It is frustrating - but at the same time is a minimum requirement for the right governance and the future lifecycle management of your system will pay off. Let's not even put the audit topic here... 🙂

Now let me try to help with other options - I am afraid you've explored those options, but I just want to be sure.

The most common options are Quickviewer, Report painter & report writer.

- Creating reports with the quickviewer:

To access this tool, the path is SAP Menu –> Tools –> ABAP Workbench — > Utilities — > QuickViewer (SQVI)

  1. Go to tcode SQVI and specify desired quickviewer name and create.
  2. A popup will appear than select ” table join” option in data source field and enter.
  3. Go to menu bar edit — > insert tables. maintain table name and enter
  4. If you want to insert a one more table follow the step 3.
  5. Go back and select the field which you want in available fields.
  6. finally save the record and execute.
  7. you can change the report layout by using “layout mode” push button before saving the quickviewr.

- And here is the a reference for report painter & report writer

Please kindly up vote if helps to shed a light.

Cheers,

Luis

Thanks for the ideas Luis. We have tried these. The problems arise when we need to restrict the results of one query dynamically. Often this is necessary in order to get the query to run at all. For example, we have a query to show deliveries of materials to a subcontractor under a subcontract PO but we are unable to see the status of teh deliveries.
