Why do we need to integrate SAP public cloud asset management with asset central foundation?

We are done with baseline configuration of asset management. There is one node which is marked as mandatory "set up integration with asset central foundation". We opened the guide document which is attached with this node and while reviewing the document we found out that it is for integration between S/4 HANA cloud private edition and asset central foundation.

We need clarity on these points:
1. Is it really necessary to perform this integration while implementing S/4 HANA cloud public edition?
2. How can we perform this integration and what are the issues we will face if we choose not to integrate our system with asset central foundation?

Hi,

Short answer is that No it is not mandatory, you do not need to activate this for S/4HANA Public Cloud and will not have any impact on your core Asset Management processes in S/4HANA if you choose not to integrate to it.

For some more detailed context if you want it..

SAP needed a way that we could extract data out of the core system (S/4HANA) and then provide that same data model to other cloud based applications in our Intelligent Asset Management portfolio. These were other solutions such as 'Asset Strategy and Performance Management', 'Predictive Asset Insights', 'Business Network for Asset Collaboration'.

That data was extracted and stored in a central place on the cloud (Asset Central) that the other applications could then integrate with as a common data model. So there was a prerequisite that if you were using those applications, then you would need to use Asset Central to integrate to them. S/4HANA <-> Asset Central <-> Other cloud applications.

As a note, things are moving on from that. For example, if your company wants to use our other applications such as 'Asset Performance Management' now, it uses direct odata connections to integrate with S/4HANA. The only solution that still uses Asset Central is Business Network for Asset Collaboration (BNAC), but its current integration with public cloud is a limited subset of data and processes.
