Where to maintain accounting hierarchies?

Hi

We are currently implementing cFin and GR. We have approx 20K cost centers defined in SAP ECC.

Business is being asked to maintain the cost center hierarchy 4 times in parallel, manually;

* GUI in SAP ECC

* GUI in S4HANA

* Fiori in S4HANA (Cost Center Hierarchy)

* Fiori in S4HANA (Consolidation Cost Center Hierarchy)

This is high overhead for business, and potential source of errors.

Have customers managed to automate any of these?

Hi Jonathan,

What version of S/4HANA is CFIN part of? Is it 1909 or 2020 or 2021? There is a new Fiori App called Manage Global Hierarchies. It's the Fiori app. You should NOT have to do the SAP GUI in S/4 just maintain it with this app.

But be aware if your doing cost center reporting in Group Reporting then you also need a Consolidated Cost Center Hierarchy.

But good news is the Manage Global Hierarchy lets you export the hierarchy to Excel. Then you make changes and or reimport it back in as a different Hierarchy. So if the Cost Center Hierarchy is the same for CFIN as it its for Group Reporting then you can set it up once and export and import.

Not a single place to maintain but hopefully reduces it to 2 places plus an extra step to maintain Group Reporting Cost Center Hiearchies.

Arleigh, how would be used hierarchy assignment in Cost Center master data then? In my understanding when you create CC, it takes the data from SETNODE table which is a basis for GUI STD Hierarchy.

So now your getting way beyond my knowledge. I know very little about SAP GUI or ECC. I pretty much live in Fiori period. All I know is the Manage Global Hierarchies Fiori App was to replace the older individual GUI hierarchy screens to have one central place to maintain heirarchies within S/4. Both GL and Group Reporting.

Pls be informed that GR has it's own SAP FIORI Apps (versus ERP, CFIN) to upload hierarchies, such as Financial Statement Item (FSI) Hierarchy, Consolidation Unit Hierarchy...

What you could look at is the functionality of the so-called SAP S4HANA flexible hierarchies and or load the hierarchies via an external system with BAPIs / APIs.

It also depends whether you can upload all hierarchies properly in tables like SETHEADER/SETLEAF, HRRP_NODE... because often these hierarchies are structures and not tables and not the same structure across ERP, CFIN, GR.

What we also use in the CFIN system is uploading the hierarchy tables via SAP BRF+ in which we add rules. I guess you could do the same with SAP BPM.

When you implement SAP CFIN together with e.g. Magnitude then maybe you could load via SAP BODS....

Further, what you can look at if you can copy hierarchies from one environment to the other, so you upload only once and automatically fill the others.

Lastly, i believe you could also use Robotics (RPA), such as SAP Winshutle, SAP UI Path to load hierarchies into multiple systems

In other words, i would plot the technical ways that apply to your company / landscape / licenses and see which ones works best.
