What kind of events do the Audit Classes record in the Security Audit Log?

I can view the audit log in SM20, and there are eight audit classes displayed on the screen. These audit classes are used to filter the logs, but what do they all mean? In particular, what kind of logs are output to 'System Events'?

It contains all audit classes and related recorded events, e.g. the mentioned "System / housekeeping" events (= System Events) as well.
