Warning if material requirements date changed after production order has been created?

Hello.

The documentation under MRP Element Maintenance explains that the system after a material requirement date change corrects reservations automatically and that planned orders are corrected during the next MRP run.

If a purchase order has already been created a workflow can be started. The purchasing agent is notified by a mail using SAP office about the changes made and can change the purchase order(s) directly from the mail.

There is however no mentioning about production orders created when the requirements date is changed.

As I read this there is no standard option way for achieving a warning (or starting a work-flow) for the production order use-case and that this would need to be custom development.

Is this correct? Experiences from creating a custom check?

Have a good continuation of the new year / Anders

An easy way to explain MRP adjustments is that there are hard and soft elements. MRP will automatically adjust soft elements (purchase requisitions and unfirmed planned orders). MRP will not touch hard elements since they are in-work (Firmed Planned Orders, Production Orders, Purchase Orders). MRP will generate exception messages if there are date mismatches.

As a wise analyst told me, "The intelligence is in front of the keyboard."

Hi.

Thanks to both Caetano and Ken for elaborating on how MRP work.

If not having a check upon making the change of the requirements date I assume the best way to monitor this from a project perspective is to run the MD4C Order Report for project / WBS element?

Regards / Anders

Ps.
Perhaps also a date exception can be defined in PROMAN.

Hello

MRP will not make any change into firm receipt elements, like purchase orders or production orders. Whenever the requirement date is changed and it no longer matches the receipt element date, an exception message will be shown to the MRP controller in transaction MD04.

If the date lies within the rescheduling horizon, system throws a rescheduling message, in order to let the planner know that the dates should be adjusted. If the date lies outside the rescheduling horizon, MRP generates a new planned order to cover the requirement and triggers an exception message to cancel the firm receipt element.

A long time ago I wrote this wiki about the rescheduling check in MRP, where you can see those exceptions:
