UI Masking & Logging Development

Has anyone used/using UI Masking & Logging in SAP UI 7.5 / SAP ABAP 7.4 without HANA DB?

Could you provide the overall development approach? What are the pre-requisites? From where to start etc..

I looked on few documents regarding this but couldn't understand the step by step process. Pls share if you find any blogs or details regarding step by step procedures for successful implementation of UI masking.
