What is the meaning of the consecutive counter behind the value string? How is the counter determined?

I don't understand how you can have a problem with this field. There is nowhere an option for you to enter this field. This is hardcoded stuff by SAP. This number is not assigned by some internal number range. It is in the screen to make it easier for the support persons while troubleshooting.
if you would be able to change this field then all the standard programs would not work anymore as they expect a very specific number
Just press F1 in that field, then technical field help, on the pop-up double click the table name V_156X_KO it takes you to the table definition, here double click the field name CNT02.
you get to another table T156X, now double click the field CNT02 and on the next pop-up click the where-used button.
You get all the programs where this field is used.
Double click the program names on the left and you can see on the right the section where this field is used, like in above screen shot.
This way you can investigate the programs to know how it is used.
The posting string is needed for the purposes of automatic account determination.
the consucutive counter is determined by the transaction/event key u provide to the system.
in OBYC u can see the different transactions for account determination
