System is not allowing to update Valid to date for a Bill of Material

We need to update the "Valid To" date for a Bill of Material previous created but the system is not allowing to change it. The Valid to date field is grey and not editable.

The field 'valid to' date in the BOM is calculated by the system default with the date of 31.12.9999.
Without a change number the 'valid to' date will always be set to 31.12.9999.

If you change a BOM header or an item with a change number then the old database record gets a new 'valid to' date and accordingly a new 'valid from' date for the new entry.
